Iditarod is an incredible teaching theme used in classrooms around the world! Students in all 50 states, many foreign countries, and on most continents participate in our activities each year. Students in all grades, pre-school through university level, in private schools, public schools, and home school environments follow the race. They practice math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and other content area subjects while involved in our projects. Students sing Idita- songs and complete Iditarod art projects. Idita- reads and Idita- races in the classroom and on the playgrounds help build the student's skills in many areas.
The theme of Iditarod has also been used in after school programs, summer school, and summer camp projects because the race is very engaging for students of all ages.
Each year, a teacher is selected to serve as the Target Iditarod Teacher on the Trail. That teacher creates lesson ideas for teachers to use with the students. During the race, the teacher flies with the Iditarod Air Force and writes a journal about the experiences. Don't miss the chance to read about the teacher's experiences. You can read about our Target Teacher on the Trail by clicking here! Click the archived materials to read about our past teachers. Do you know a teacher who should apply for this incredible adventure? Pass the great news on to that teacher!
