The LAST GREAT TEACHING RACE!

The 2009 Iditarod Race to Nome is an exciting race!  Who will reach Nome first?  That question is before many of you as you follow the race! As you watch the race progress, don't forget the race is not over until the last musher reaches Nome!  There are incredible teaching moments before you from now to the end of the school year, too.  Stay on the Iditarod Teaching Trail with us!  Click here for important teaching and race information!

The Lost is Found!   Nigel, a dog from Nancy Yoshida's team was reunited with Nancy Friday afternoon.  Nigel and Nancy were at the Millennium Hotel Race Headquarters.  K-9 Journalist, Zuma, was at the Millennium to meet up with Nancy and Nigel.  Click here to read more about it!

Target 2009 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail

Cathy Walters is having an incredible adventure along the Iditarod Trail.  Are you wondering how to pronounce all of the checkpoints along the Iditarod Trail?  Click here to listen to Cathy's Idita-Tunes.  The Checkpoint Song will help you with that!  Cathy's additional songs will delight your students!  You can read Cathy's journal from the trail and check out suggested teaching ideas by clicking here.

Mentor on the Trail

Helping students make positive choices that lead them on a 'trail towards successful living'" is an important goal.  Traveling on the Iditarod Trail with Cathy is Russell Throckmorton.  Check out Russell's blog by clicking here!

What is YOUR IDITAROD?

Iditarod is a race that forces mushers and their teams to face everything that Mother Nature and the Iditarod Trail can 'throw at them' as they journey from Anchorage to Nome.  Iditarod is a challenge!  What is 'your Iditarod' (your challenge) We'd like to hear from teachers and students about the challenges they face and the steps they take to meet their challenges.  How does following the race and learning about the Iditarod help one meet those challenges?  Send your poems, paragraphs, and ideas by clicking here.

In the Musher's Sled Bag!

Read about a project that places student letters in a musher's sled bag.  Plan to be involved in this project next year!  Click here!

The Race is NOT OVER Until the Last Musher Arrives in Nome!

The race is over when the last musher arrives in Nome.  There will be a musher's banquet in Nome on Sunday, March 22.  If all of the mushers have not reached Nome by that time, another banquet and celebration will be held just for the final finishers.  Watch the website for information about the finisher banquet in Nome.  Is your class having a similar banquet?  We'd like to hear about it!  Send us your details.  Click here!

Who will be the NEXT Target Iditarod Teacher on the Trail?

The selection interviews and competition for the Target 2010 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail has concluded.  In early April, the selected teacher will be announced.  Read about this year's finalists and review their projects by clicking here.  Wish our finalists the best of luck.  Watch for our press release in April.  Are you interested in being a next Target Iditarod Teacher on the Trail?  Click here to read over the program information and review the application.
