Go here to read Chapter 2 of Whisper to the Blood, the 16th Kate Shugak novel publishing exactly three months from this day on February 17, 2009. Later today I'll be rolling the subscription list dice to come up with the winner of the second advance reading copy. All you have to do to win is be subscribed to the newsletter, which you already are since you're reading this. Last month's ARC winner was Lynda Manwaring of Geeveston, Tasmania in Australia. Please note fabulous cover art. I've already got it on stamps and bookmarks. The bookmarks will be going out to bookstores before the end of the year. the kate shugak series (abridged) on YouTube
Since Whisper to the Blood is the sixteenth Kate Shugak novel, and since I suppose it is possible that some of you may have forgotten where she came in, or missed a few chapters, or (gasp!) not read the series at all, click here for a little YouTube Shugak shorthand to bring you up to speed.
A message from Barbara Peters at the Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, Arizona: Dana Stabenow breathes such life into her Kate Shugak novels, and with wicked relish. She writes some bits of them while curled up in my guest bedroom and I hear evil chuckles and comments like, "Just you wait to see what I've in store for you," issuing from under the door. It's like having one of Macbeth's three women on the heath as a houseguest, busily brewing and bubbling up trouble. I was able to read Kate #16, Whisper to the Blood, while on a recent flight home from Germany. The long flight passed in a flash as I too cackled and muttered. Whenever my husband Rob raised an eyebrow at me, I'd say, "I'm reading about Kate…," and he'd nod sagely and go back to sleep. In this sisterly spirit, I am delighted to be throwing a Launch Party for Dana at The Poisoned Pen. She isn't on tour this year, but she will drop down on February 17 to Scottsdale where we will offer treats, prizes, an interview with Dana, and a book signing. It will be memorable. I will even be baking the famous pumpkin bread for it. Happy Thanksgiving to all, Barbara Peters, sales@poisonedpen.com |
